AvidXchange announced today that Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Joel Wilhite, was named a finalist for Charlotte Business Journal’s “2021 CFO of the Year” award. This award honors top local professionals for outstanding performance in their roles as senior financial executives.
As AvidXchange’s CFO for nearly 5 years, Joel has led the team to support continued growth, including leading two capital funding rounds in 2020. This is Joel’s third appearance as a CFO of the Year finalist.
Historically, responsibilities of a CFO were focused on stewardship and controllership, but the role of the CFO is changing. This change is something Joel has not only embraced but embodied. He believes that game-changing, innovating CFOs are those that focus less time on policing assets and more time acting as creative, analytical problem solvers. During his tenure at AvidXchange, Joel has focused on developing strong financial literacy throughout the company to help employees better understand AvidXchange’s history and what the numbers mean for the future.
Joel has more than 20 years of experience including international senior financial leadership roles at private and public companies. His diverse background includes long-range financial planning and forecasting, overseeing mergers and acquisitions, and building and developing top talent.
Joel and other finalists will be featured in a special report in the October 8th issue of the Charlotte Business Journal, and the winner will be announced at an awards ceremony on Thursday, October 28th. To find out more about the award, click here.
