Controllers in the United States spend about 70 percent of their time on traditional tasks such as closing the books or complying with accounting standards, according to a Deloitte survey of finance professionals. In sharp contrast, they spend only 14 percent as strategists who influence the future direction of their company.
The minimal amount of time controllers tend to focus on strategy is one of the six largest challenges these financial leaders face.
